If you're a little absent-minded and could use a little help remembering to do things, then GPS-Action is a location-aware alternative to traditional reminder tools.
Most alarm applications work by triggering an alert at a given time. GPS-Action is designed to be a little more intelligent than that, by using your location data to alert you or perform actions for you. For instance, it could automatically switch your phone to silent when you're in the cinema, remind you to look for a particular item when you're at the shopping mall, or open your email when you arrive in the office.
To use GPS-Action, you'll first need to configure the landmarks that will be used to trigger alarms or actions. The program can detect your current location using GPS positioning or cell positioning, or you can manually enter the GPS coordinates of a location. Once programmed in, you can assign an alarm to this location, setting the conditions for the alarm and adding a note to remind yourself what you're supposed to be doing. Then, when you get to that location, GPS-Action will display a pop-up message and play a sound (from a wide range of different alert tones).
Actions are added in a similar way to alarms. Again, you select the landmark that will trigger the event, then choose an action. This could be a profile, Bluetooth, an application, a document, or a website. When you go into that area, provided the conditions of the event match, the action will be displayed.
Overall, I found GPS-Action very easy to configure and the more you use it, the more uses you see for it. From reminding me to pick up milk on my way past the supermarket, to phoning my mother when I get home, GPS-Action takes care of remembering so I don't have to.
One small feature I would've liked to have seen is the ability to view filtered alarms or actions by landmark. I found that when I had lots of alerts configured it took a while to scroll through them all looking for the one I wanted to edit.
If you're looking for a way of easing your brain's workload on a day-to-day basis then GPS-Action makes for an intelligent and reliable solution.
